DROMEC Winches Develops Prestigious Winch System
in Collaboration with BKV
Barneveldse Kraanverhuur is a family-owned business that rents cranes for various projects both domestically and internationally. With an extensive fleet of cranes and certified crane operators, BKV is a specialist in Europe for complex lifting operations. For the disassembly of wind turbines, DROMEC Winches developed a special tool commissioned by BKV. This successful collaboration was crowned with the prestigious ESTA Award!
Tension Master
The unique and innovative Tension Master TM-1800 system relieves the crane and hoist wire when connecting heavy loads at great heights, such as during the disassembly of wind turbines. The winch system ensures continuous tension on the hoist wire, even when empty hook. The hoist wire is always rewound under tension onto the drum using the winch system. BKV successfully uses the Tension Master at various project locations.
Traction Winch System
DROMEC Winches developed a traction winch system for the Tension Master with compact dimensions and lightweight design. This allows the winch system to be mounted on the tip of the crane without modifying the crane. The traction winch provides continuous pre-tension on the crane’s hoist winch with an empty hook. During lifting, the traction winch can build up to 1800 kg of power, approximately 10% of the crane’s lifting capacity. With continuous tension on the crane drum, the system is safer and allows the operator to work more efficiently.
Battery Pack
The electric traction winch operates wirelessly on a battery pack powered by 11 kWh motors. This efficient battery pack recharges itself while paying out the hoist wire. During lifting, the winch slows down to maintain pre-tension and charges the batteries. This allows the traction winch to pay out with an empty hook, preventing the wire between the winch and the tip of the crane from ever going slack.
Control System
The control system in the traction winch allows the operator to monitor it via smartphone or tablet. The pulling force can be adjusted through this control system. It can also be manually operated to thread the wire on the ground when assembling and disassembling the crane. A load cell construction is built-in to measure the tension, and the system is logged for safety.
Jan Willem, engineer at DROMEC:
“We had an exceptionally good collaboration with BKV. Great people and efficient communication. There is a lot of mutual trust, which gave us the opportunity to develop this excellent product.”
ESTA Award
The ESTA Awards of Excellence Event is the annual event for the heavy transport & lifting sector in Europe. Each year, participating companies submit their most challenging and innovative projects for a prestigious ESTA Award. DROMEC Winches congratulates BKV on this remarkable recognition!
