DROMEC Winches supplies 3 winch systems

for Audacia Allseas

Allseas specializes in offshore pipeline installation for oil and gas transport. For the vessel Audacia, which is involved in a project in Australia, DROMEC has developed three new winch systems.

10T Mooring Winches

The winch systems developed by DROMEC for the Audacia are 10-ton mooring winches. DROMEC previously delivered these in a horizontal configuration.

Rens Haagsma, engineer at DROMEC, explains:

“For Allseas, we created a new compact design by mounting the drive vertically and placing the control system above the drum. We built the entire unit into a frame, making it robust and crash-resistant. The three winch systems will be installed at various locations on the ship.”

Offshore Installation

Powerful winch system with Constant Tension

Operating under constant tension, the winch systems use an electric drive with a 15 kW motor. Especially for Allseas, the level winder system was reinforced to ensure longer machine life and reduce maintenance needs. With a maximum holding force of 15 tons and a 28 mm cable storing up to 350 meters, this winch system is truly a powerful asset on board.

Control system and high-quality stainless steel

Rens adds:

“The control cabinet is mounted above the drum, giving the entire system a vertical configuration. Operation is handled via a wireless remote and can be controlled from a distance using a joystick. In addition to a 3-layer C5 marine coating, the winches are equipped with covers made from 316 stainless steel.”

A special relationship

The relationship between the DROMEC team and Jaap Wijsman of Allseas has been strong for years. Allseas purchased their first spooling machine from DROMEC in 2013.
“Jaap is a great guy who knows exactly what he needs from practical experience. We’ve translated his ideas into reality and always receive positive feedback,” says Rens.
