DROMEC Winches supplies winch systems to TESO Texelstroom for rescuerunner

The island feeling: a refreshing getaway with the wind in your hair. We travel to Texel on the Texelstroom, the latest ferry from TESO. Most trips are smooth, but things can take a different turn. In the event of an emergency involving a person overboard, DROMEC’s winch systems operate at full speed to lower the rescuerunner.

Combined winch systems

With two winch systems working closely together, the rescuerunner is deployed in case of an emergency. The upper winch system moves the basket containing the rescuerunner horizontally along a beam, using a trolley, either forward or backward.

The lower winch is a hoisting winch that moves the basket with the rescuerunner vertically, with a lifting capacity of 800 kg. Once the crew is aboard the rescuerunner, the hoisting winch lifts it slightly off the deck, and the trolley positions the system overboard. When the basket is hanging overboard, the hoisting winch lowers the cable at a speed of 38 m/min. This ensures the rescuerunner is in the water in no time.

Rescue operations

With this combined winch system from DROMEC, the Texelstroom can quickly come to the aid of people in distress. An additional safety requirement for this winch system is the double brake system, as it involves lifting people. If one brake were to fail, the second brake would take over. Moreover, the entire system has been inspected and certified by Lloyd’s and was also tested at DROMEC’s facility in the presence of Lloyd’s.

Control system

DROMEC developed the control technology for this winch system in-house. The operator can easily position the basket with the rescuerunner using a frequency-controlled system.
