Conveyor belt Vlissingen
New winch with controls for DEME Building Materials BV Vlissingen
Traditionally, Dromec has had a strong connection with the offshore and nautical sector. It is therefore not surprising that the Zeeland based construction and machine builder P. van Eijzeren and Dromec have found each other. An existing conveyor belt has been converted and it again complies with current legislation and regulations.

Project DEME Building Materials conveyor belt
P. van Eijzeren – based in Borssele and Zierikzee and founded in 1919 – specializes in agricultural mechanization and in construction and machine building, including engineering, machining and assembly.
‘Dromec uses us as a supplier for all kinds of sheet metal and steel parts. We also produced winchdrums for them’, explains project engineer Bram Steendijk. ‘The project for DBM Vlissingen-Oost was considerably larger.’
Winchsystem for conveyorbelt
Storage and transhipment company DBM Vlissingen-Oost knocked on their door to modernize a conveyor belt with which inland vessels are loaded with sand, stones and gravel. ‘The height of that belt in relation to the ship had to be flexible. Adapted to the size of the ship and moving with the tide. To raise or lower the conveyor belt, a winch system was needed. The skipper operates the belt.’
Matching 3D Model
The winch, control & software, hoisting cable and associated pulleys come from Dromec’s design department and workshop. P. van Eijzeren was responsible for the adjustments of the conveyor belt and the construction in the port of Vlissingen. The entire construction was, of course, extensively tested in practice. The development process – from the first sketch to commissioning – took six months.
Good communication and cooperation
The mutual communication and cooperation is excellent. ‘Because of the big distance, we mainly communicate by telephone and e-mail. That was always done in a pleasant and clear manner. The Dromec winch 3D model fitted neatly into our conveyor belt design model. The work and time schedule were neatly drawn up. I know that our customer is very satisfied with the end result. That functions properly. In short, it was a great service & co-operation!’
